Growing FAQ's

What you Need to know

Rest assured, elderberry bushes are well-suited to survive Canadian winters and produce thriving flowers and berries. However, deciding on the right variety can be confusing. We recommend varieties "Ranch" & "Kent" which thrive in most regions across Canada. They root easily, ripen early, and are reliable producers.

Six out of nine cuttings are doing great. The other three might be a little slower because I didn't soak them before planting them. The slower ones are Kent and they don't have a bit of green on them anywhere. Am hoping to get replacement cuttings to try again. This time I will soak them overnight.
Am very happy with the Ranch and Victoria cuttings and am actively looking for a place to plant them where I won't have to fight bears to pick them. Our property might be a little too secluded but I don't them close to a roadside either. Louise was most helpfull with advice on that.
I would like them for tinctures and a wee it of elderberry wine.

Hi Marni, looks like your cuttings are off to a good start. Cuttings can often send green shoots up from the bottom node rather than the top node. This can take a few extra weeks to poke through the soil. Keep up the good work! Let us know how it goes, Louise

Happy Little Ederberries

I received my elderberry cuttings and promptlty planted them in small pots indoors as per instructions. Within a couple of weeks they sprouted their new little leaves. I am patiently waiting for the roots to develop so That when the time comes I can plant them outdoors. Every one of them sprouted and I am super excited to watch them grow this year and all the years after. Very happy with the results so far.

Great to hear Kandise, wishing you much success growing elderberry this year! - Louise
